Dried Blood Spot Card Punch – Efficient sample collection at a fraction of the cost of automated card punches

Published: July 9, 2024

Recent advancements in the sensitivity of analytical technology have brought about a greater interest in Dried Blood Spot testing. One drawback of the testing process, however, is the inability to collect punched DBS samples quickly and easily. Manual hand-held punches are cumbersome and time-consuming and can cause hand fatigue and blistering. Automated card punches are one solution, but may be cost-prohibitive for many facilities. The DBS Dried Blood Spot card punch from Analytical provides an easy and effective solution for punching and collecting dried blood spot sample

The DBS card punch punches perfect, clean-edge circular disks from your DBS sample card and inserts them directly into your collection plate well or tube. During operation, an air-powered punching action is triggered by the pneumatic foot pedal. When the foot pedal is depressed, a steel cutting punch is driven through the sample card, creating the sample disk. A glass pipette below the punch platform guides the sample disk into your receptacle.

Since the unit is foot-controlled, your hands are free to process your samples easily and quickly. It eliminates virtually all hand fatigue and blistering experienced when using manual hand punching tools, and increases efficiency and productivity. And at around $2500, it is the perfect choice for facilities in the exploratory phase of DBS research and analysis.
