Enhancing XRD and Crystallization with Kapton/SS Plates
Published: March 19, 2025At Analytical Sales and Services, Inc., we offer high-performance Kapton Stainless Steel (SS) plates designed for precision in X-ray diffraction (XRD), crystallization, and physical characterization. These plates provide reliable, reproducible results that are crucial for research and development in pharmaceutical, biotech, and materials science industries.
What Are Kapton/SS Plates?
Kapton, also known as Polyimide (PI), is a durable polymer with excellent thermal stability and chemical resistance. When combined with stainless steel, it creates an ideal platform for scientific applications. For example, our latest product, the 96-hole Kapton Plate (0.3mil liner, 3mm thickness), is specifically designed to support XRD, crystallization, and physical characterization experiments with precision and ease. This plate is twice as thick as our standard 1.5mm Kapton plate and is designed for slurry sampling applications. This added thickness is crucial in containment of the slurry samples to prevent splashout from the well.
Benefits in XRD and Crystallization
X-ray Diffraction (XRD) is a powerful analytical technique used to identify the atomic and molecular structure of a sample. In XRD experiments, the sample is subjected to X-rays, which diffract at specific angles depending on the crystal lattice structure of the material. Kapton/SS plates are essential because they provide a stable surface that won’t interfere with the diffraction results, ensuring accurate analysis. For crystallization, these plates offer a chemically inert surface, making them ideal for growing and analyzing crystal structures, essential in pharmaceutical research and drug development.
